TGI Friday 3/30/07

Police and Firefighters say their job is ..."filled with hours of boredon broken by moments of absolute terror". This green screen work (Lee and Carter use the French flag as a parachute after jumping off the Eiffel Tower) is hours of screaming terror broken my moments of sheer bliss.

We have a one day weekend this week in order to shoot on local streets on Sunday. I won't post until later on both weekend days. I hope to see a movie and do some writing which I have neglected for too long.

As our hiatus approaches I am leaning more and more towards putting a day in at the beach. A day lifeguarding would put me in the right frame of mind for the little family vacation we're taking during the Easter/Spring vacation.

Thursday 3/29/07

Sometimes movie making seems to be a great job. We are fed very well, our caterer; For Stars is one of the best. Today we have a chiropractor on set and we've got wireless Internet. The latter is a feature that's really nice to have. There is so much time spent on set that I need to have something stimulating to do during the day. In truth, it's in the best interest of the Producers to keep us fed and healthy. It doesn't always work out the way they planned but the numbers are usually in their favor.

Here is a comment I hear all the time, "I want your job, all you do is sit around not doing anything". My response is, "I'm not paid for what I do, I'm paid for what I can do". That will quiet all but the most annoying person.

Here's a picture from Jackie's website: www.jackiechan.com We were shooting in a former hospital and Jackie's webmaster asked me to pose with some of my stuff.

Wednesday 3/28/07

Started at 4 again today and the company (the shooting crew) started at 8. We're still doing green screen work on the Eiffel Tower set. Chris Tucker and Jackie hold the French flag and are blown off the tower.

As a show nears the end crew members jump ship and go on to other projects and this is no exception. I see more unfamiliar faces almost every day.

However, today I ran into Adam and Darryl from my three seasons on "7th Heaven". It can be comforting to run into people you know especially in this business that is sometimes impersonal.

Here's a shot looking south from Tower 15 in Santa Monica that I took sometime in Dec. 06.

Tuesday 3/27/07

Yesterday turned out to be a long day. I can in at 4.0 (am) with the rigging grips and I got off at 21.0 (9 pm). And we had a one hour lunch to boot. I usually sleep at lunch on those early days but yesterday I was too wound up trying to get the blog set up.

Today we started at a more humane 8:30 call which gave me time to take my sons to school and even have coffee and hot chocolate with one.

I owe much thanks to our Sound Mixer, Jeff Wexler for helping me find blogger.com, Jeff's extremely knowledgeable about the web and computers.

As a show winds down most of us on the crew talk about what we're doing next. Some people don't reveal what's next out of a superstition that, "You don't really have it 'til you sign the deal memo." They don't want to jinx it. Some don't have anything lined up and plan to "day play". I'm one of the latter. I don't know what's next but I'm not worried, I still need to but some days in on the beach. I'll put up a picture from the tower soon.

Monday 3/26/07

Welcome to day one of the blog. I'm a Set Medic and Ocean Lifeguard. I'll post as often as I can or when I can get online. Today is day 104 of filming "Rush Hour 3" with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.

I've been working on the show since the end of October, when the company returned from filming four weeks in Paris. This has been a wild ride full of numerous takes and days when the crew was released due to cast/above-the-line injury/illness/disagreement.

My job as the Set Medic is to keep the cast and crew healthy in preventative ways and patch them up when they go down. A picture of me will be posted soon so be patient.
